Let’s be clear. Just by following the first eight steps alone, you will go a long way in optimizing your hormones. Still, depending on the damage or health issues you’ve experienced over your lifetime, just following the first eight steps may not get your health to the completely optimum level. If that’s the case, your endocrine system and hormones may need a little “boost.” The first foundation is systemic detoxification. The second foundation is immune modulation. And the third foundation is what we’re going to now discuss, physiological optimization.

This is where TransD comes in. It’s the safest and most effective method, not to mention the most affordable and easiest way to naturally up-regulate all hormones—without engaging the NIFBL or using hGH. Back in the mid-1990s, the period that saw the advent and growing popularity of hGH, I chose to work toward finding something that could increase endogenous hGH without increasing IGF-1. Not only did we accomplish this almost impossible goal, we were able to measure a consistent drop in IGF-1, both immediately as well as over the long term.

TransD is a unique, peptide analog-based, transdermal (applied through the skin) product that my partner and I developed in 1998. Without going into too much technical jargon, we were able to essentially mimic the “in vivo” process of protein conjugation. In other words, we were able to essentially duplicate the process by which the body digests proteins from, say, a turkey sandwich, into the raw amino acids and then reassembles these amino acids into new peptides to make enzymes, hormones, tissue, etc. “That’s impossible,” you might say. So did everyone else.

Over the years, as we played with this, the realization that the results we wanted might never materialize crossed our minds, but we just continued. We kept trying: batch after batch, month after month. And then, after more than thirty-four hundred different trials leading to over eleven hundred separate batches and a few years, as if by divine inspiration, one of the batches worked.

To say we were excited would be an understatement. Over the next forty or so days, I woke up every morning in a cold sweat believing that everything had been just a dream. We are truly humbled by the discovery.

Trans-D Tropin® was developed for use only in my own private practice. By coincidence, however, I also had a number of patients receiving treatment at my clinic who happened to be physicians themselves. A few of them were started on TransD and experienced the incredible broad-based benefits firsthand.

Word slowly spread through these patient–doctors, who wanted to provide the same unique benefits to their own patients; the rest, as they say, is history.

In 1998 we applied for registration with the FDA, and TransD was duly registered in 1999. It’s important to mention that “registered” is different from being “approved.” The FDA does not “approve” products that are all-natural. We initially made TransD available by prescription just because we wanted to distribute the product through doctors and pharmacies, and for the first decade this was the only way one could obtain TransD. It has now officially been on the market for well over eleven years and has enjoyed steady success in the most difficult market in which to sustain an all-natural product, namely, the medical market.

TransD has been recommended by more than 1,880 doctors in twenty-seven different countries and, as of 2008, had more than 22.8 million doses dispensed. Before going any further, I want to make clear to all the readers, if it hasn’t already been made abundantly clear, I have a vested interest in TransD. However, even though I personally developed and have a vested interest in TransD, it doesn’t change the fact that TransD was created because there was nothing out there that conferred the benefits I was searching for without the side effects. It was something that I very much needed and actively sought to help my patients.

TransD is an hGH-releasing analog, which means it acts like the signal telling the pituitary to release hGH. This function is vastly different from being the hormone itself. Because TransD starts at the top of the hormonal cascade, it doesn’t interrupt the delicate balance in the middle or at the end of the cascade, as a hormone itself would do. Another tremendous benefit from TransD is that the signal it mimics is not limited to hGH.

Studies have shown that TransD has an effect on many other hormones as well, including increasing such sex hormones as testosterone and decreasing such stress hormones as cortisol.

TransD should certainly not be confused with a class of therapeutics referred to as secretagogues (which I mentioned briefly in chapter 2). TransD mimics the actual messenger that tells your pituitary gland to begin the process of producing more of its own natural hGH. Most secretagogues, on the other hand, are sugarbased precursors that have little if any benefit.

Worse, like hGH, they promise to increase IGF-1. The truth is they are harmless and won’t elicit anything. In the rare event that you find a secretatogue that may be effective, it will be effective only in creating a problem precisely because these substances promise to increase IGF-1, the same undesired effect as that of injectable hGH.

In appearance, TransD looks like a simple off-white runny lotion and is applied directly on the top of the forearms. Very simply, you apply the lotion to the top surface of one forearm and then rub it against the other forearm. There are no needles to inject and no special rituals to follow.

You can take a shower or go for a swim within five minutes of applying TransD, but we suggest waiting at least ten minutes to make sure everything applied has been fully absorbed. Best of all, TransD is completely safe, costs far less than injectable hGH, is far more effective and never violates the NIFBL. Preliminary study results and subjective patient responses obtained in three studies done between 1999 and 2003 were nothing less than extraordinarily exciting. But then, again, remember—I’m biased.
